Remember when I used to be a preschool teacher...

I used to research and come up with fun craft/art ideas all the time for lesson planning for my preschool students.  Lila had fun making some fall art for our home.  A handprint tree with fingerprint leaves.  She loved to paint and didn't try eating any this time. Go Lila:)

After the paint dried, I put the artwork in a 5x7 frame on our end table with some other fall decorations.  Simple, easy, and cute.

Pinterest Project 2 {Crayon Art}

This is another idea from pinterest that my sister in law found.  I had a brown painted canvas and dozens of crayons just waiting for a project.  The project is so easy and I finished it in one evening.

Hot glue crayons to one side of the canvas.  I used shades of pink, green, and brown.

Melt the tips of the crayons with your blow dryer on hot setting and let drip down.
I turned mine so the crayons were on the bottom after seeing this crayon art and sewed some flowers right onto the canvas.
 Here is the finished project

A jinx?

Who me?  A jinx?

So what if the Detroit Tigers have lots every.single.game that Jason and I have gone too and if he goes without me...they win.

So what if the last time I saw my beloved Tigers win was on July 10,2003 which happened to be my birthday and the season where they lost the most games.

So what if we could have seen them clinch the division in 2006 only to see them lose in the 12th inning when at one point they were up by 6 runs and the stadium was dead silent walking out.

So what if they had 39 comeback wins (thanks for that stat mom!) and they tie it up in the 8th inning and then go on to lose.

So what if Jason told me it was my fault that we didn't get to see Verlander get his 25th win.  It is not like I was out there pitching:)

So what because they have already clinched and are going to the post season anyway.  Don't worry, I will not be buying a ticket!!!

We had a great time at the baseball game this weekend.  Brendan got to see his "Tiger" hit a home run, eat nachos, and watch a firework show.  Plus when they lost he didn't cry this time.  He was too excited about the fireworks.

The guy who took this picture joked he was going to put it on his blog? Coincidence?

The difference between two kids

Sometimes I am astounded at the difference in my two children.  When they are together it is a loud and crazy time.  There is running, tripping, wrestling, screaming, toys flying through the air, laughter, tears, etc...They have fun and can entertain each other.  Perfect!

Since Brendan has started school, I'm finally able to have that one on one time with Lila.  I was a bit nervous at first because it had been so long since Brendan was this age (a year and a half) and all we did together was sports, sports, and more sports.  Lila being the second child never got mommy and daddy all to herself for an extended period of time.  Even her first birthday was shared with Brendan:)  That is what happens when your birthday is 5 days before your brother's!

Now Lila has the attention of mommy from the hours of 7:55am-3:40pm and let me tell you about Lila.  I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.  She is so calm, quiet, and peaceful.  She likes to sit with me on the couch reading book after book and sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" over and over again.  It is so quiet in my house.

We've been taking little outings this week to the grocery store, farmer's market, library, and craft stores.  She likes to walk next to me like a big girl and she is so independent.  Yesterday at Michael's she threw a fit because she wanted to carry 8 spools of ribbon for me:)  Not quiet all the time.  When we were at the farmer's market, I had her carry the green pepper for me and she took bites out of it like it was an apple.

Her favorite part of the day, by far, is when we walk to the bus stop.  She loves her big brother so much and gets so excited when she sees the bus pulling up.  Then once we get home, our house is filled with the screaming, yelling, toys flying, and wrestling once again.

I told you so

"If the satellite hits our house you can say I told you so."

The words were spoken by Jason last night in reference to the soon to be falling out of the sky space debris.

I always worry about silly things I cannot control like airplanes hitting our house and now rogue satellites.  The airplane could totally happen as every day at least 10 planes fly directly over our home en route to our local airport.  They also seem to flying lower and lower each time.  Some nights when they fly over and it is too dark to seem them I pray that they don't come crashing into our house.  So far my prayers have been answered (knock on wood).

So yesterday afternoon while getting onto facebook, I see this status update from our local news station, it says something like, "Watch out!  Satellite headed towards Earth!!"  I immediately remember my very vivid dream from not that long ago.  I panic and send a message to my mom and aunt (who heard about my dream) with the status link.  I then call my mom and see what is going on.  She tells me it will land in the Pacific Ocean somewhere and we are fine.  Later that evening I tell Jason about how my dream was a premonition to what will surely happen and at least we will be together when it hits us.  That is when he told me I can tell him "I told you so" when it hits us and was followed by something like I'm a crazy person and why do I think of stuff like this:)

Why you ask was my dream a premonition to a satellite hitting us???  Well in my very real and life-like dream, Jason and I were driving down a four-lane highway (two lanes on either side) at dusk.  The sky was a brilliant orange color and we noticed people on the side of the road pointing up into the sky.  I say something like, "I wonder what they are looking at?" and we both glance into the fiery sky to see something flying towards us and then BOOM.  Next thing I know is that my body feels pinned down and we are literally zooming to a bright white light.  The end of this bright white light.  The outline of Jesus.  And then I woke up.  In a panic.  Thinking holy crap I just died and saw the bright light.

The good news.  If this falling space debris should hit you.  It will be painless and over before you know what hit you.

The bad news.  Scientists now don't know exactly where it is going to hit.  They are hopeful to give a two hour warning though.

Happy first day of fall:)

First homework

Brendan brought home is very first "homework" assignment from school.  He had made a mini-book and he was supposed to read it three times that night and write down who he read it too.  I thought he would be excited to work on his assignment...boy was I wrong.

He yelled, cried, and said, "I want to do my homework at school.  Not at home."

Sorry Brendan...that is kind of what "homework" is...work you do at home.

He is only 5?  How do they know that homework is fun yet?

After his teenage girl fit, he decided he could read to Lila, mommy, and daddy since we are three people.  He read to Lila first.  It was so sweet.  She sat right next to him on the couch, all excited for his gripping story of Time for School.  She also listened again when he read it to me and then once daddy got home from work.

He wrote all of our names on his worksheet and we put the paper back in his bluejays folder to return to school.

He was then free to choose an activity and surprise surprise...he picked Wii Sports:)  I will  try to have him do his homework when he first gets home.  That is when I did my homework and I think it will be less of a struggle if he knows he has to finish his work before he plays then vice versa. It is easy work now...when he gets to high school math that will have to wait for dad.

One assignment down...how many to go now?

Yarn wreath

I've been seeing these wreaths on pinterest and could not wait to try one.  I wanted to make a wreath for the fall season to last until winter with rich colors.  I found the perfect yarn at Jo-Ann Fabrics and the straw wreath.  I had a coupon to use for each item and it cost me less than $4.  Even my husband would approve:)

This wreath was truly very simple to make and only took me a couple of days to complete (worked on it on and off).

Next I added the embellishments.  I had gotten coordinating felt colors and made flowers, my mom gave me some of the raffia to hang it, and I found the crocheted ribbon in a box of goodies from my grandma.

The finished look on our front door.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm loving...

Pinterest!!!!  My sister in law just invited me and I've spent a couple hours pinning already.  It is so fun and I can't wait to try out some of my pins.

I'm loving...the hours of 12:30-3:00pm.  My one year old takes a nap and my son is at kindergarten...almost three hours of "me" time in the afternoon:)  I've been working on a lot of blossoms for two upcoming shows this fall.

I'm loving...these woven ribbon headbands.  I have 7 made and have lots more ribbon and ideas!

I'm loving...College football is here!  I'm a Buckeye and my husband a Wolverine.  Brendan LOVES Go Blue like his daddy and Lila is too young to have an opinion yet;)  Saturdays are fun around here.
Silly faces!!!
What are you loving today???  Link up here and let us know.

Nature Center aka Lila's new favorite place

After we sent Brendan off to school today, I asked Lila what she wanted to do.

Her response, "Ducks!"

We ventured to our local nature center for an impromtu photo session (Lila has a cute dress that I got for $3 and it won't fit much longer) and duck viewing.  She waved hi to the ducks, the other walkers, the dogs, and birds.  Here are a few photos from our fun outing...
