Birthday ideas( or wasting time on Pinterest)

Just about 2.5 weeks until the kids joint birthday party...

so what do I do for inspiration???

spend useful time researching Pinterest of course.

Last year we had a sledding themed party for their 1st and 5th party.  It was a hit.  We had the perfect amount of snow, perfect location, perfect weather, and perfect guests:)

So obviously this year we are recreating the party (with only fewer guests.)  So far we have had no snow that has stuck around (it's January in Michigan!!!) and all I have so far are so cute invites due to arrive any day.  No other ideas...

Trying to have a theme for a 2 year old girl and 6 year old boy is a challenge.  They both like ducks/birds.  Lila LOVES Dora and Brendan LOVES baseball.  We want Lila to have special birthdays since Brendan had 4 special birthday parties all to himself.  Not just she has to have what he has because he is older.

Last year I made cakes and cupcakes to go with the sledding theme and created all sorts of decor in silver, purple, and blue.  It was Lila's first birthday so it had to be extra special.  Now she would be estatic if she had a Dora balloon (or a dog, or a cat, or a duck) and Brendan if sports were involved.

Here are some of the ideas I've pinned...

Just now after searching Dora cakes I come across this on Amazon.com
For the low price of $30 plus the Dora food coloring plus the Dora rings for cupcakes...it is only $38 and change.  I could buy her a Dora cake that would look nicer, taste better, and require no effort on my part.  C'mon Wilton!

Another idea I've seen a lot is diy cupcake toppers.  These would be easy to customize for whatever theme the kids choose and cupcakes are much easier to manage than multiple cakes.  I better start deciding soon!
